Driving tank cars

Driving tank cars

Driving a tank car, whether on a chassis or on a semi-trailer, requires good driving skills and an understanding of the laws of motion physics.

Tanks carrying various liquids (gasoline, bitumen, milk, industrial fluids, cement, water) have a higher center of gravity and therefore easily tip over during various sudden maneuvers. It negatively affects the stability of the tank and the flow of liquid inside the barrel.

The large mass of the transported liquid leads to a deterioration in acceleration and braking dynamics and to severe consequences in the event of a collision.

It is also possible to break the barrel and spill environmentally hazardous and combustible substances.

The course may consist of a seminar and practical exercises at the training ground. In the course program:

  • Physics of car movement with high center of gravity and high mass
  • The most dangerous maneuvers are braking, cornering, and changing lanes
  • The importance of surveillance, timely identification of hazards and movement planning to prevent sudden maneuvers
  • Understanding the stability threshold when driving along a turning arc
  • Braking dynamics when driving with a full tank
  • Entry and exit from the cabin using a three-point system

• Dimensional maneuvering and reversing
